| R-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression Systems Expanded R-102 Overlapping Appliance Protection | | | | 6/4/2007 - THIS IS BIG! ANSUL R-102 Overlapping Appliance
Protection has EXPANDED.
New distances between nozzles and new piping rules are
just two of the many enhancements now offered. When flexibility and simplicity are
the most important features for a kitchen design, ANSUL Overlapping Appliance
Protection provides
a virtual fire-free zone where appliances of various types and sizes are protected – even
if they are replaced or rearranged under the hood.
The
expanded R-102 Overlapping Appliance Protection option has been tested and
is listed by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. - both UL and ULC.
New Features and Benefits
R-102 Overlapping Appliance Protection
brings many features which, together, offer you and your customers simplified
design, lower installation costs,
and future flexibility…
- Nozzle Spacing – Expanded from 12 in. (305 mm) to 25.5
in (647 mm). Nozzles are spaced a maximum of 11.5 in. (292 mm) from each end of the hazard,
and then spaced a maximum of 25.5 in. on center until the complete hazard is
covered as illustrated below. This new spacing allows for standard 24 in. (609
mm) pipe nipples to be used between nozzle drops, minimizing the need to cut
and thread pipe in the field.
- New Simplified Piping Rules – R-102 Overlapping Protection
now utilizes a total length of pipe and number of elbows for each system
which allows unlimited flexibility and ease of installation. When using
Overlapping Protection, you no longer need to worry about
branch lines, supply lines
or equivalent length. See the attached Nozzle Coverage/Overlapping
Summary Sheet for specifics.
- Range Protection – Protection for ranges is now
30 in. (762 mm)
deep x unlimited length.
- Hardware Reduced – With the expanded distance
from nozzle to nozzle; the number of drops, nozzles and accessory components
are drastically reduced – making
systems more competitive.
- Appliances may be interchanged freely or upgraded without
changing nozzle placement as long as appliances stay within the zone of protection.
- High Proximity Nozzle Placement – Nozzles are
installed 40 in. to 45 in. (1016 – 1143 mm) above the cooking surface.
- Existing Nozzles are used for Overlapping Protection.
Use the 245 nozzle on each end of zone and the 260 nozzle for everything
in between. All nozzles
are simply aimed at the center of the zone.
- Detection Placement – Detectors may be conveniently
spaced every 24 in. (609 mm) under the hood. The best approach is to
start at the duct placing
one detector in the duct and then every 24 in. thereafter in each direction.
- Standard R-102 Components are used for Overlapping Appliance
Option. No additional components are needed for inventory.
With
the ANSUL Worldwide Distribution network and R-102 Restaurant Fire Suppression
System, we continue to lead the way in Restaurant Front Line
Fire Protection. |
