| TIME Magazine Names ANSUL® SAPPHIRE™ Fire Suppression System One of the “Coolest Inventions of 2004” | | | 1/19/2005
Marinette, Wis., January 19, 2005 – TIME Magazine has named the ANSUL® SAPPHIRE™ Fire Suppression System by Tyco Fire & Security one of the “Coolest Inventions of 2004.” The SAPPHIRE system was featured in the magazine’s annual “Coolest Inventions” issue that hit newsstands on November 29th. This accolade comes just eight months after Tyco Fire & Security first unveiled ANSUL® SAPPHIRE™ in April of this year.
The SAPPHIRE system utilizes 3M™ NOVEC™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, which looks exactly like water, but does not cause the type of damage associated with water when putting out a fire. This system provides the ideal solution for hospitals, museums, libraries, telecommunications centers and other facilities seeking to protect critical assets that could be damaged by ordinary fire suppression systems.
In selecting SAPPHIRE, TIME said of the technology: “It looks like water. It pours, flows and sloshes like water. But it doesn't get things wet. That makes this wonder fluid perfect for putting out fires in offices, computer rooms and museums.”
“Coolest Invention” award winners are selected by TIME Magazine’s editorial staff in categories such as aerospace, technology, food/drink, sports, health, entertainment etc. To be considered for this award, products must be revolutionary and have the ability to enhance or improve peoples’ lives.
