MARINETTE, Wis. – July 2012 – Tyco Fire Protection Products (Tyco), proud producer of the globally recognized ANSUL brand, is celebrating 100 years of industry leadership in commercial fire suppression at the company’s Marinette, Wisconsin, USA facility. The business is commemorating its centennial through ongoing events and by giving back to the community that helped it flourish.
“Our community is at the heart of our business and the prosperity of our brands,” said Rob Abfall, director of operations, Tyco. “Tyco is committed to continuing the legacy that it was built on by producing high quality products for established global brands out of our Marinette facility.”
Tyco’s Marinette location opened its doors as the Bastol Sales Company in 1912, specializing in producing cattle feed. In 1915, Frank Hood bought the company and renamed it ANSUL to reflect its primary product – a refrigerant chemical – laying the roots for what was to become one of the largest fire protection companies in the world. This spirit of innovation continues today at the 350-acre state-of-the-art Marinette facility, which currently employs nearly 750 people.
“This facility is a product of the community in which it resides,” said Jay Thomas, general manager, special hazards, Tyco. “It symbolizes the loyalty of our citizens, innovation of our workforce, strength of our brands, and growth of our business that progresses us forward as industry leaders.”
To celebrate the company’s past, present and future, Tyco is giving back to the community in several ways, including:
· Charitable giving program – One donation each month will be made to local charities. Organizations, including the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and the local Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc., will receive a check presentation for their work in fields that align with Tyco Fire Protection Product’s mission of ultimate fire protection and safety.
· Community support – Tyco is a major sponsor of the Menominee Waterfront Festival’s fireworks display to take place on Saturday, August 4. The company also supports the community by sponsoring employee participation, funding and in-kind donations for events such as the Bay Area Medical Center Menominee River Century Bike Ride, Salvation Army holiday gift drive, and an annual fire extinguisher sale that benefits more than 25 area organizations.
The Marinette facility and ANSUL chemical company was purchased in 1990 by Tyco International. Various parts of the facility were recently renovated to include new testing laboratories, training offices and marketing workspaces, further illustrating Tyco’s lasting commitment to invest in the people and community.
