Foam Monitors

Foam Monitors control the horizontal and vertical directions of large capacity discharge streams. Water-oscillating monitors automatically move side-to-side using water pressure as the energy source. Remote controlled monitors use an electric joystick to control horizontal, vertical and stream pattern. Other monitors are operated manually using a tiller bar or housewheel.

Many monitor model are available including manual, FJM (high flow), and water oscillating with a variety of nozzle options including master stream non-aspirated monitor nozzles, and AFN air-aspirating nozzles.

Monitor options:

Manual Monitors

The basic monitor is a manually-operated device. It contains a swivel joint for vertical movement (elevation) and a swivel joint for horizontal movement (rotation) to direct the stream of foam/water to the hazard area.

Water Oscillating Monitors

The water oscillating monitor is designed to automatically oscillate horizontally over a set area. It is powered hydraulically by water flowing through an oscillating mechanism attached to the rotation swivel joint. The elevation angle is preset by means of a locking knob. This type of monitor is also equipped with a manual override.

Remote-Controlled Monitors

The remote-controlled monitor typically operates using an electric joystick controller and electric motors on the monitor that control movement. This allows operation and control of the monitor at a safe distance from the fire.

FJM High-Flow Series Monitors/Nozzles

The High-Flow Series achieves flow rates from 800 to more than 5000 gallons per minute (3000 to 18927 Lpm) depending on the model, nozzle setting, and inlet pressure. The dual waterway design, lightweight stainless steel construction and integral bronze nozzle make the High-Flow Series well suited for marine applications and other corrosive environments. Each series listed below may include options for self-educting, gear operated, electric gear motor driven with remote nozzle pattern control, or self-oscillating.

Nozzle options:The general purpose of a nozzle is to provide a restriction of flow to build fluid pressure. This pressure provides usable fluid velocity to project a stream a determined distance. In the case of foam solution, the nozzle also assists in the generation of foam.Handline nozzles and master stream nozzles may be air aspirating or non-air aspirating devices. Air aspirating nozzles can be used with all low expansion foam agents. These nozzles contain air inlets and an expansion tube.Non-air aspirating nozzles are standard for many fire departments where they are used mainly for applying water. In certain circumstances, these nozzles can be used for the application of AFFF and ARC solutions. In contrast, protein and fluoroprotein foams should NOT be used with non-air aspirating nozzles. Both aspirated and nonaspirated nozzles can be used with handlines, on monitors, and in fixed spray systems. This solidly constructed industrial nozzle offers superior stream quality and reach. Fog angle is user adjustable between 90° wide fog and straight stream. Nozzles available include: The M-IF Nozzle gives a clean far-reaching straight stream and is adjustable from straight stream to a dense fog. The factory ordered fixed orifice is available with K-factors of 75 to 105. The Master Stream 2000 is an automatic high volume master stream nozzle with a flow range of 300-2000 gpm (1136-7571 Lpm). The nozzle is designed to a constant 100 psi at the nozzle throughout its range. This produces an excellent hard-hitting stream at any volume from 300 gpm to a maximum of 2000 gpm.Constructed of hard anodized aluminum with stainless steel fasteners and adjustment rod, this air aspirating foam nozzle offers minimum weight with durability. Stream pattern is adjustable in the field from an even fan type to a full straight stream.Flow rates are specifically tailored to individual protection by the insertion of a pre-engineered stainless steel orifice plate. Orifice plates can be sized for flows from 250 to 1000 gpm (946 to 3785 Lpm) within K-factors of 35 to 125 based on flowing nozzle inlet pressure. (Monitor friction loss must be deducted from monitor inlet pressure to use those K-factors.)Range from 50-190 ft (15-58 m) depending on pressure and elevation. 2 ½ in. • The FJM-80 series of monitors is designed to deliver approximately 1,000 gpm (3,785 Lpm).
  • The FJM-100 series of monitors is designed to deliver approximately 1,600 gpm (6,000 Lpm).
  • The FJM-150 series of monitors is designed to deliver approximately 3,100 gpm (11,700 Lpm).
  • The FJM-200 series of monitors is designed to deliver approximately 5,300 gpm (20,000 Lpm).
