SPILL-X Chemical Spill Control


Chemical spills happen and can immediately become hazardous waste situations. The SPILL-X product line of free-flowing treatment agents provides a quick, safe and cost-effective alternative spill control method. SPILL-X agents are specifically formulated to treat acid, caustic, solvent and formaldehyde spills by neutralizing, solidifying and/or adsorbing.                                                                                                                                                                      

Four agents are formulated for various needs, including SPILL-X-A for mineral and organic acid spills; SPILL-X-C for caustic and organic base spills; SPILL-X-S for common hydrocarbon solvents and fuel spills; and SPILL-X-FP for formaldehyde spills.  Disposal of spill waste material must meet local, state, and federal regulations.

SPILL-X-A - Acid Neutralizer/Solidifier
For mineral and organic acid spills, SPILL-X-A agent can both neutralize and solidify the spilled material. A magnesium oxide-based agent, its red color differentiates it from other agents. Typical hazard areas include research laboratories found in healthcare and higher education, chemical process areas, water treatment plants, boiler areas, and storage areas. This agent treats spills involving sulfuric, hydrochloric, nitric, phosphoric, formic, hydrofluoric, acetic, and adipic acids.

SPILL-X-C - Caustic Neutralizer/Solidifier
For caustic and organic bases, SPILL-X-C agent can both neutralize and solidify the spilled material. A citric acid-based agent, its tan color differentiates it from other agents. Typical hazard areas include research laboratories found in healthcare and higher education, chemical process areas, water treatment plants, boiler areas, and storage areas. This agent treats spills involving caustics such as sodium hydroxide, ammonium hydroxide, aniline, diethylamine, potassium hydroxide, morpholine, and hydrazine.

SPILL-X-S - Solvent Adsorbent
For common hydrocarbon solvents and fuel spills, SPILL-X-S agent is different; its special properties allow it to adsorb rather than absorb spills.  This agent will rapidly adsorb the material, contain it and reduce vapors from the spilled material. The solvent is chemically bonded to the agent and the waste residue can be incinerated.  A carbon-based agent, its black color differentiates it from other agents. Typical hazard areas include research laboratories found in healthcare and higher education, chemical process areas, and small manufacturing facilities. This agent treats spills involving hydrocarbon solvents, reagents, or other organic materials such as peroxides or hydrazine compounds.

SPILL-X-FP  - Formaldehyde Polymerizer
SPILL-X-FP formaldehyde polymerizer treats spills of formaldehyde solutions by chemically changing the formaldehyde so that it cannot evaporate into the surrounding work area. The agent is a urea-based formulation that chemically reacts with formaldehyde to form a urea-formaldehyde polymer (polynoxylin). Typical hazard areas include research laboratories found in healthcare and higher education, chemical, medical, agricultural, wood products, plastics, and metal finishing industries. This agent treats spills involving formaldehyde and other aldehydes such as glutaraldehyde.

 Different application options are available including treatment kits, SPILL-GUN applicators, pails, and drums. Each 50 lb (26.7 kg) pail of SPILL-X-A or SPILL-X-C agent treats 4 to 6 gal (15.1 to 22.7 L) of acid or caustic, and a 50 lb (26.7 kg) pail of SPILL-X-S agent treats up to a 3 gal (11.4 L) spill of solvent, or 150 ft (13.9 m). For larger spills, fiber drums of SPILL-X-A, SPILL-X-C, or SPILL-X-S agent treats up to a 20 gal (75.7 L) spill or 600 ft (55.7 m).
