CHECKFIRE MP-N Detection and Actuation System

The CHECKFIRE MP-N Electronic Detection and Actuation System provides automatic detection and actuation for underground mining equipment. The CHECKFIRE MP-N carries MSHA approval for use in underground mines (Permissible Applications in Explosive Methane/Air Applications).

The rugged control module resists shock and vibration and can be utilized as a self-contained system with its own internal Lithium battery. The CHECKFIRE system is typically used with an ANSUL Vehicle Fire Suppression System for 24-hour protection of equipment including detection, alarm, machine shutdown and fire suppression system actuation.

Two detection options are available including Linear Detection Wire and Spot Thermal Detection.

Detection Options:

Linear Detection Wire

The linear detection wire consists of two, spring steel conductors that are separated by a heat-sensitive insulator. At the temperature rating of the wire, 356 °F (180 °C), the insulator melts, allowing the two conductors to make contact. This contact provides electrical continuity between the two conductors. The linear detection wire is supplied in lengths of 100 ft (30.5 m) or 500 ft (152.4 m) and must be ordered separately.

Spot Thermal Detection

Thermal Detectors are normally open, contact closure devices. The fixed temperature design of these detectors will cause the contacts to close when the temperature of the surrounding air reaches the set point temperature of the detector. Thermal detectors are available in three preset temperatures, 270 °F (132 °C), 325 °F (163 °C), and 360 °F (182 °C).
The CHECKFIRE MP-N offers two reliable forms of detection used individually or in combination.

Linear Wire Detection consists of two spring-steel conductors separated by a heat sensitive insulator. At the temperature rating of the wire, 356 °F (180 °C), the insulator melts and the two conductors make contact, sending a signal to the detection module which signals the control module to actuate the fire suppression system.

With Spot Thermal Detection, the thermal detector contacts close and signal the control module to initiate fire suppression when the temperature reaches either 250 °F or 350 °F (121 °C or 177 °C) depending on the model selected.
